WWW Wednesday – 26th August 2020

Hello and welcome back for another WWW Wednesday! Last week was my first WWW for a while, and now look at me here doing two weeks in a row – I should buy some more books in a reward to myself. Hmm.

This month has been an interesting one in a terms of what I’ve ended up reading – and rereading, as I accidentally fell into reading A Court of Mist and Fury and A Court of Wings and Ruin again. Obviously. I’ve realised what a comfort those books have become, and it’s really nice to have a books that feel like a safe space almost, when my brain is overwhelming, that I can retreat into.

I had about a week or so this month where I didn’t read much at all, mainly due to a flare up in my mental health, and I’ve had to contend with other barriers to my reading that have mainly been health related too (because what the hell else could be getting in my way, we’re in the middle of a pandemic). But I’ve bounced back a little bit this week, and read half of A Curse So Dark and Lonely on Monday.

Back on topic, and as always I’ll explain briefly about WWW Wednesday before I get started. WWW Wednesday is a really simple way of breaking down your recent reading by asking three simple questions:

  • What have you recently finished reading?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What are you going to read next?

What have you recently finished reading?
After reading These Witches Don’t Burn last week, I craved some more fantasy and after having a firm talking with myself that I was not allowed to read ACOTAR yet again, I opened a new book. My friend Ellie over at Read to Ramble bought me A Curse So Dark and Lonely earlier this year, and I finally picked it up. Long, long overdue as I absolutely loved it. I’ll be reviewing it properly in the days to come, but what I will say is that I really loved having a lead character with a disability who was a total badass, especially as it was the female lead. It took me a bit of time to get involved with the characters, but once I was invested, I was completely absorbed.

What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading two books. One is one of my NetGalley review list, as I’m trying to get my statistics back up a bit after a few new books. The other is – surprisingly – my planned book from last time, The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, although I’m finding it a bit difficult to get into after how the first book ended. No spoilers, obviously, and I’ll be reviewing that book soon too, but rolling into the book was a bit more difficult than it was with the first book.

What are you planning on reading next?
Well it depends on how much I end up enjoying City of Ashes really, as I have City of GlassThe Mortal Instruments Three – ready and waiting to go, but if I need a bit of a break from it I might keep going with my NetGalley attack. I’m also waiting on the delivery of This Coven Won’t Break, the sequal to These Witches Don’t Burn and I might have to jump straight into that the minute it arrives! I always feel like I’m a bit indecisive with this last question but I’m very much a mood reader, especially when I’m not 100%.

Well thanks for joining me back for this week’s summary – let me know if there’s anything you think I should be reading, as always!
