WWW Wednesday – 2nd December 2020

Welcome to my first WWW Wednesday of December 2020! It’s time to feel a little bit festive, and I’m thinking about reflecting that in what I’m planning on reading. It’s hard to try and stick to my planned reads but also move a little bit of festivity in, but I’m trying to balance it out. Maybe I’ll just make sure Christmas music is playing in the background when I’m reading!

I’ve had a bit of a hard time recently focusing on books, no matter how much I’ve wanted to. It’s been a bit of a tough time and that always hits back on my reading, which is frustrating, but I’m used to it after the rest of my life working this way. I’m hoping that I’ve managed to get over this bump in the road and I can get back to reading as I normally would now.

As always, WWW Wednesday looks at your recent reading habits by asking three straightforward questions:

  • What have you recently finished reading?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What are you planning on reading next?

Let’s jump right in!

What have you recently finished reading?
I’ve recently enjoyed reading the beautifully illustrated How The King Of Elfame Learned To Hate Stories. With everything that we put into the preparation for the release as a team of Ambassadors, I really couldn’t wait to finish the trilogy before diving into the novella. It was just what I needed to pick me up out of a sticky place, struggling to focus on books, with lots of short stories. I can’t rave about this book enough, even as someone who hasn’t been a fan of The Cruel Prince for very long, it’s a book that can be hugely appreciated as a work of beauty as well as a work of fiction.

What are you currently reading?
I’m reading several things at once – again – trying to boost my brain into focusing on something! My main read is The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon right now. I read the book years ago, not long after it first came out, but it’s been so long that I’ve forgotten a lot of the details. It’s almost like reading it again for the first time which is awesome as I’m remembering just how much I enjoyed it. With the fourth book due out early next year, I have it as an ARC, and I’m hoping to reread the first three so I can read them all in order.

What are you planning on reading next?
Well now that very much is the question. I want to finish some of the books I’ve tried to bump myself back into reading with, but equally I have a rather long list of January releases that needs attacking. My first release for the new year is The Ravens, a ‘dark contemporary fantasy’ about a sisterhood of witches. Which, the more I think about it, sounds like something I should really start reading….

Thanks for popping by!

  2. I tried planning out an entire year of reading this year…. but then circumstances changed and it went by the wayside. Next year I think I will just keep a big “master’ tbr list instead and see how that goes. The Ravens does sound like a fun read.
