Naughty or Nice Book Tag

Fiona over at Fi’s Bibliofiles tagged me in her latest Christmas themed book tag and so I just HAD to join in. I love the build up to Christmas, and I haven’t done a book tag for ages! I’ve written a more serious post about what books to buy for people this Christmas, so let’s have some fun. There’s a list of questions, and then you find out if you are on Santa’s Naughty or Nice list! I’m nervous already….

Questions – Have you ever…

Received an ARC and not reviewed it?
Yes. No. Maybe?
I’ve had a few that have been DNF so I haven’t reviewed them because I’ve had issues with them for various reasons, and I have a few ARCs that are past their publication date that I haven’t reviewed yet, but never for no reason…
So I suppose the answer is yes? Eek.

Have less than 60% feedback rating on NetGalley?
It was earlier this year at 43% so I think that’s very much a yes! Currently I’m at 67% and have a LOT of books to read for January, which all came rushing through at once, taking me back down from what was so briefly the infamous 80%.

Rated a book on GoodReads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)?
No, this is something I’ve never done. I don’t use GoodReads with much religion, I much admit, and if I do write a review at all it’s a miracle. Picking a number of stars is normally as impressive as it gets!

Folded down the page of a book?

Accidentally spilled anything on a book?
No, not in as long as I can remember. I’m somewhat protective of my books, as my above comment might suggest, so I’m always very careful near my books, and have taught my son to be as well. Being naturally clumsy (thanks to my health conditions) I use my Kindle when I’m a bit wobbly and more likely to spill things. Thankfully that is a bit more resilient than paper.

Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it?
Although I am (too easily) motivated by pretty covers and beautiful designs, and have been encouraged to buy books by them being beautiful, I’ve never bought a book just to look at it.

Read while you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)?
HAHAHAHAHA YES. I always used to read during class at school, and I still get sucked in by books when things like housework needs doing. I don’t even feel bad about it.

Skim read a book?
It’s either been a case of I’m reading it or I’m not, and if I’ve decided not to finish it, I’d far rather make that decision than skim read.

Completely missed your GoodReads goal?
Like I’ve said above I’m not really very good at GoodReads, I really should use it better. This year I’ve upped my goal several times and met my final goal of 70 books earlier this month.

Borrowed a book and not returned it?
Not deliberately, but I’ve borrowed a few books only for people to pass out of my life – not in a horrible way, just in the way that people pass through each others lives – and to have not returned them before that has happened. I’ve equally had that happen to me (my entire Phillipa Gregory collection to an ex boyfriend’s mum in my teens, not that I’m bitter), and I think that’s just sometimes how it goes. I do always hold onto those books and would return them if asked, of course.

Broke a book buying ban?
My finances are always pretty tight being disabled, so for me I’m either in a position to buying things or I’m not. When I’m not, my bills depend on me not buying things. So I never set myself ‘book buying bans’ specifically. I just go through periods of time when I can’t afford to buy things.

Started a review, left it for ages, then forgot what the book was about?
I’m pretty good at remembering to write my reviews pretty quickly, purely for the reason that I know I will forget. There are a couple of books I need to sit down and review, and I might need to glance over the synopsis again as a reminder, but I don’t start then pause long enough to forget or I’ll do just that.

Wrote in a book you were reading?
Yes, when studying. If I want to take notes in my personal books I use sticky tab notes these days. I hate to say it but I do kind of miss annotating; gotta love a highlighter!

Finished a book and not added it to your GoodReads?
So. Many. I think we’ve established I’m useless with GoodReads. Mainly as when I read ARCs prior to publication and they can’t be added to GoodReads yet, I make a mental note to add them after they’ve been published.
Then I forget.
So who knows how many books I’ve actually read this year.

Dodged someone asking if they could borrow a book?
I’ll either say yes or no. People know how much I love my books, and if I trust them enough to lend them a book, it’s more than likely they are asking because they love books too. However, all books must be returned in the same condition or consequences may occur….

Broke the spine of someone else’s book?
I’m always paranoid about breaking the spines on my own books, there’s no way I’d do it to someone else’s!

Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up damaging it more?
I’m always really careful with dust jackets because I need beauty in my life, and I’m terrified of making it worse, but a bit longer with a cat might prove me wrong.

Sat on a book accidentally?
I cannot think of an occasion when this has happened, but I am absolutely sure that it has. So yes.

Final Score: 7/19

Yey! I made the Nice List. Hopefully that means books for Christmas, yes, Santa?
