April TBR

Welcome back to this month’s TBR. I’ve been making a dedicated effort to stick more to my monthly TBRs, or at least make an attempt to do so, this year. I’ve still been doing a fair amount of mood reading, and decided last minute to do the Trope-ical Readathon this March which impacted what I was reading too, so March ended up being an interesting reading month overall, and all things considered, I’m proud of what I managed. Next week I’ll be writing up my March Wrap Up and what I was reading in March has a link to what I’ll be reading in April. In the meantime, you can find my previous monthly TBRs from 2021 here:

City of Lost Souls – Paperback
The next in the readalong of the Shadowhunters series I’m doing with Ellie and Fiona is City of Lost Souls. We’re back in New York with Clary, Jace & co, and after the events of City of Fallen Angels (review here), I’m both keen and terrified to see where this book will go. After a slow beginning, the last few chapters where so very intense, and I’ve been getting twitchy wanting to pick up the next book. Waiting for April has been a difficult challenge on this front!

Clockwork Princess – Audio / Paperback
After the events of Clockwork Prince, I’m keen to finish this trio of books that make up part of the historical background to the Shadowhunters series. It’s been an eventful few books, and thinking how much things have progressed from the very beginning of Clockwork Angel to now… Well. I’m having to force myself to focus on other books, because part of me just wants to dive into this one.

The Crown of Gilded Bones – Kindle / Audio
It’s no secret that I fell in love with the Court of Thorns and Roses series last year. This year’s love is From Blood and Ash, and I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t wondered what I should get tattooed to represent it… More seriously, the final pages of A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire left me with my mouth agape, utterly stunned, and needing the next book immediately. This is the problem with falling in love with a book series while it’s still in the process of being published! I have this one pre-ordered and I will be ignoring everyone until I have finished it when it arrives.

Witches Steeped In Gold – Paperback
I’ve had this ARC sat looking at me for too long now, and I have no idea why I haven’t picked it up. It’s beautiful to look at and I’m so keen to read the story, I just need to get on with it! With the book being released in April it only makes sense to finally get around to reading it, and I can’t wait – even if it has taken me too long in the first place.

Kate In Waiting – eARC
I’m on a blog tour for Kate In Waiting towards the end of the month, so I’ll be reading the book in the weeks before hand. This story of love, friendship, and finding yourself is one I’m really looking forward to. Here’s the synopsis:
Contrary to popular belief, best friends Kate Garfield and Anderson Walker are not codependent. Carpooling to and from theater rehearsals? Environmentally sound and efficient. Consulting each other on every single life decision? Basic good judgment. Pining for the same guys from afar? Shared crushes are more fun anyway.

But when Kate and Andy’s latest long-distance crush shows up at their school, everything goes off script. Matt Olsson is talented and sweet, and Kate likes him. She really likes him. The only problem? So does Anderson.

Turns out, communal crushes aren’t so fun when real feelings are involved. This one might even bring the curtains down on Kate and Anderson’s friendship.

The Hanging Tree – Audio
I’m making my way through the Rivers of London series still, and have only slowed down my pace because I’m frightened of running out of books! These paranormal crime fiction books have really taken over a piece of my brain and heart, and I’d be lying if I said I did wonder what was coming next at least a few times a day. Although I initially planned to read these in paperback, I’ve fallen in love with the narration, and now listen to each of them. I’m genuinely excited to start the next book.

Bridge of Souls – Paperback
I read the first book of this paranormal fiction series, City of Ghosts, in a day at the end of the month, and read the second a few days later. I can’t wait to see where their adventures go next. Following a teenage girl, her paranormal obsessed parents, a very annoyed cat, and a ghost best friend, what could possibly go wrong? The first book saw them travel to Scotland, and book two takes them to Paris. The perfect spooky book to get lost in.

So there’s my plan. I like to make sure there’s enough flexibility in it to add extra books in. With nearly 40 books read so far this year, I know I’m underestimating how many I can read, but I want to have the freedom to do some of the mood reading, and some of the last minute reading I know I’ll need to inevitably do for blog tours too.
