Hello hello and welcome or welcome back to my little bookish corner of the internet. It’s the last Wednesday of the year, what a strage thought. Most Wednesdays this year, I’ve sat down to write this same post, and so it’s WWW Wednesday time again.
It’s the strangest time of year, this time after Christmas where everything is up in the air and the days blend. It’s all a bit weird, isn’t it, where we’re living on Christmas food remains and kids are opening every box known to mankind. We’re so tight for space here that things have been interesting to say the least, but I can’t complain too much. Most of our festive period was actually really nice, and the three of us have played a lot of board games, and just enjoyed being together.
My husband and son bought me some really thoughtful gifts, and of course books were high up on the list of included things. I’m sure I’m not the only one that gets excited at rectangular gifts at Christmas, and my husband even bought me two graphic novels – Lore Olympus and Body Work, the first Rivers of London GN – to make my stack even more interesting. I’m planning on getting up to date with the Rivers of London series before the release of the new novel in April.
So let’s crack on.
WWW Wednesday is a way of checking reading habits with three simple questions:
- What have you recently finished reading?
- What are you currently reading?
- What are you planning on reading next?

What have you recently finished reading?
My most recently finished read was The Bone Shard Daughter. This is one I’ve meant to read for WAY too long, and some Christmas-themed insomnia got the ball rolling with it. Right from the very first pages, I fell in love with the collection of characters, the magic system, the thrilling sense of adventure that ran through it all. It’s come in right at the end of the year, but it’s going right onto the top reads list.
What are you currently reading?
As always, I’ve got a couple of books on the go at the moment. I only finished The Bone Shard Daughter yesterday but I’m already feeling a hole in my life where that went. With just a couple of days left before the end of the year, I’m hoping to fit in finishing at least one more book if I can.
My current audiobook is The Gilded Wolves, which I’m only a few chapters into so far but I’m enjoying immensely; it’s quick and witty. My physical book right now is The Christie Affair. I was sent this from the publisher and it’s one of those books where every single time you pick it up, it is all you can think about.
What are you planning on reading next?
Part of that, as always, really depends on what book I finish first. I am keen to get caught up with the Rivers of London books as I mention, so I’m wondering about starting Lies Sleeping which is the next one in the series.
I’m also really keen to read A Shadow in the Ember as I’m running out of ways to avoid spoilers now, and I don’t particularly want to as it is! I’ve got quite a few blog posts scheduled ahead of time so I can allow that bit longer to read it without worrying about falling behind with posts, which was one of the things holding me back.
And then of course there’s the brilliant pile of books from Christmas, both as gifts, and ones that I’ve bought with vouchers. I’ve delibrately spent the vouchers this side of January as I’m planning on going on a pretty strict-ish book buying ban. I’ve got a couple of excited deliveries to look forward to!

So there – the last Wednesday of 2021 wrapped up. I’m going into 2022 with a fiercely compeitive attitude… competitive only with myself, my previous goals, and where I want to go in the next 12 months. More about that to come!
