Hello hello and welcome or welcome back to my little bookish corner of the internet. Today is my stop on the blog tour for The Dominion: Defiant, and I’m sharing my interview with author Chris Cloake.
An ancient adversary in the east seeks to invade Ordefima and claim the treasures it holds.
When his beloved sister is captured, Rupert, the youngest son of the ruling family, is sent to save
her. As the power of the enemy increases, can he overcome personal tragedy, emotional
entanglements and lost allegiances to emerge as the hero? Or will subversive forces and
increasing austerity inspire the people to rebel against him?
The Dominion – Defiant is the second book in the fantasy trilogy. If you like epic adventure, dark
brooding menace, vivid characters and imaginative settings, then you’ll love this latest instalment
by popular author Chris Cloake.
Hi Chris, thanks for taking the time to join me today to talk about your latest release and bookish things. Let’s start off easy! What are you reading at the moment?
John Wyndham’s ‘The Midwich Cuckoos’. A real piece of classic science fiction.
Where does your love and motivation for writing fantasy come from?
From Tolkien initially in book form and then as movies.
What does your ideal day look like?
At least 3 hours for writing, another hour for reading and the rest as stress free as possible!
How are you feeling about seeing this latest release out in the world?
Immensely proud. It is a year’s work realised.
Does your approach to writing vary as to where you are in a WIP, or do you have a set routine?
I do have a routine. I need a clear head and my own space, which comes mostly at night when most are in bed.
What has your favourite book been so far this year?
Too soon to say for 2022. For 2021 it would have to be mine!
Finally, how would you sum up Defiant in three words?
Different. Intense. Emotional.
About the Author
Chris Cloake was born in 1964 and began telling stories a couple of years later. He grew up in
Kent, England. He is motivated to write by a deep interest in life, particularly the cruel, deeply
flawed nature of people contrasted with their incredible creativity and inspiration. The power of
the natural world is a common theme in his work as a writer and professional photographer. He
lives happily with his wife, two children and a large collection of music, books and board games.
Thank you to Chris for his time, and to the ever lovely Zoe for all her hard work behind the scenes.
