Hello hello and welcome or welcome back to my little bookish corner of the internet. Today I’m sharing the newest post in my Five Books With… series, and this time I’m posting about books with better sequels.
I’ve read some absolutely brilliant books in the last couple of years… and many of them have had even better sequels! I love a good series I can dig my teeth into, and there’s so many out on the shelves, regardless of which genre you’re interested in. So here’s five of mine that I think only get better as they move forwards.

Truly Devious
I absolutely loved the Truly Devious series, and it’s probably one of my all time favourite series if I was to break it down. Stevie Bell is a brilliant protagonist, and the series only gets better from book one. My favourite is the third book, The Hand On The Wall. Part of that is because it draws the mystery together, but also because we get a deeper look at the characters we have come to know and really see Stevie pulling out all the stops to solve things. I’d love to read this series for the first time all over again. Reviews below of all four books:
#1 – Truly Devious
#2 – The Vanishing Stair
#3 – The Hand On The Wall
#4 – The Box In The Woods
Rivers of London
The urban fantasy series focusing around PC Peter Grant accidentally entering the secret supernatural world of the Met Police is one that I’ve continued to love, and loved more as it has continued. With this series, I don’t think I could actually pick a favourite, other than knowing I’ve loved getting more and more immersed into this world, and so loving each ‘next’ book that bit more. Review here:
#1 – Rivers of London
#2 – Moon Over Soho
#3 – Whispers Under Ground
#4 – Broken Homes
#5 – Foxglove Summer
#5.4 – What Abigail Did That Summer (Novella)
#5.5 – The Furthest Station (Novella)
#6 – The Hanging Tree
#7 – Lies Sleeping
City of Ghost
This middle grade supernatural trilogy by Victoria Schwab was a heart warming, and utterly beautiful series that I read last year. I currently have an ARC of the author’s upcoming release, Gallant, and I can’t wait to dig into it, especially after enjoying this trilogy so much. My favourite of these three books was the third; such, such a special book. Reviews here:
#1 – City of Ghosts
#2 – Tunnel of Bones
#3 – Bridge of Souls
The Infernal Devicies
This trilogy from the Shadowhunters universe has just so much to give. And while the first book is a wild ride and a wonderful adventure to historical London, the second and third books managed to capture the balance between action, adventure and affection perfectly. Tessa, Will, Jem and their little community keep you turning the pages way beyond bedtime. Reviews here:
#1 – Clockwork Angel
#2 – Clockwork Prince
#3 – Clockwork Princess
S.T.A.G.S
Finally, this ongoing young adult thriller series is one that keeps you on your toes as the book progresses. Just as you think you’ve got things figured out, there’s more things to unravel. And I absolutely love it! Book one is a great introduction to the luxury world of S.T.A.G.S, but there’s so much more than meets the eye…. Reviews here:
#1 – S.T.A.G.S
#2 – D.O.G.S
#3 – F.O.X.E.S
#4 – T.I.G.E.R.S

Thanks so much for stopping by to join me for this post. I really love this collection of posts, and always enjoy putting together these things, and this particular collection of books really is mind blowing! I hope you enjoy some of the reviews to go with them too, and please come back soon.

I haven’t read or even heard of any of these books. They sound interesting. Thank you for sharing.

These are new to me. It is good when series get better as they go along.

Ooh, I’ve never read any of these but want to now! I love situations where sequels are just as good, if not better than, the original.
