Blog Tour – Kate On The Case

Hello hello and welcome or welcome back to my little bookish corner of the internet. Today is my stop on the blog tour for the middle grade mysteries, Kate On The Case, and the sequel, The Call of the Silver Wibbler.

Kate On The Case – Synopsis
Young reporter-in-training Kate and her mouse-accomplice Rupert are on board a train, to visit Kate’s mum in the Arctic.

But as soon as the train departs, mysterious things start happening.

A packet of ginger nuts goes missing . . .
A collection of gymnastics trophies are stolen . . .
And some ancient scrolls disappear . . .

Fellow passenger Madame Maude seems the most likely culprit, until a surprising – and delicious – twist turns the whole investigation on its head.

Kate On The Case – Review
This was such an adorable little novel. First off, I loved the “genius mum in science” storyline that underlined the adventure. It’s always such a positive to see plotlines like that, especially in those aimed at young children.

The friendship between Kate and her lovely little buddy Rupert, a clever mouse, was lovely, and watching them work together to solve the case, all while looking up to Kate’s newspaper writing idol, made me want some more adventure in my life! And a talking mouse, naturally.

I didn’t see the direction that the story was going in, and I absolutely loved it. It was fun, motivational, and was set off perfectly with beautiful illustrations that just made this book a sheer delight to read.

The Call of the Silver Wibbler – Synopsis
Reporter-in-training Kate is back for a new adventure! Be swept downriver on this exciting jungle cruise in search of the mysterious Silver Wibbler bird…

When Kate and her mouse Rupert sail through the jungle home of the legendary Silver Wibbler, they know there’s a story to be sniffed out. Why else would the Bird Brigade be on board? Their fearsome leader General Hornbill is convinced the Wibbler is a myth but young Bird Brigader Bertie is determined to prove him wrong. Can Kate help Bertie uncover the truth?

Full steam ahead for friendship, mystery and some ruffled feathers… A hilarious new mystery, packed with illustrations!

The Call of the Silver Wibbler – Review
In this sequel, Kate, Rupert and Kate’s dad have set sail on Kate’s first official assignment for her idol, and it’s all about shrimp. Or is it?

Alongside new friend Bertie, part of the Bird Brigade, they start hunting for clues and piecing together what they find about the mysterious, as yet unknown, Silver Wibbler. Bertie is desperate to impress his hard to please Brigade leader, and Kate is sure there must be a more impressive story to cover than shrimp. Between them – and of course with the invaluable assistance of Rupert – they are going to solve this case, no matter how much trouble it gets them into.

I loved this book as much as the first, if not more, and it had me chuckling along throughout. Once again set off by beautiful illustrations and with twists to keep even the keenest minds guessing, this is a must read this year.

A huge thank you to Eleanor at Piccadilly Press for sending me this duo of books, and for really brightening up a day’s reading for me. I can’t recommend these more for middle grade readers!
