WWW Wednesday – 12th January 2022

Hello hello and welcome or welcome back to my little bookish corner of the internet. Wednesday is here again, and it’s time to review my recent reading with WWW Wednesday.

January has started off busy and hectic for us. We’re still homeless, and still trying to get things moving. It’s becoming increasingly frustrating, not knowing where we stand or what’s coming next, especially with how things worked last time, when we moved with so little notice. We’re all trying to stay positive, but it’s a hard task at times, for all of us.

That said, book-wise things are going well. I’ve read some really good books so far this year already, and also branched out into graphic novels a bit, which was one of my objectives for reading in 2022. So far, I’ve finished ten books this year, and three of those have been graphic novels, which is exciting. I’m also really proud of the amount I’ve read so far already, even if part of it is because I’m completely hiding in books right now!

WWW Wednesday is about looking at recent reading habits with three simple questions:

  • What have you recently finished reading?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What are you planning on reading next?

What have you recently finished reading?
I’m on a blog tour this week for The Secrets Act. My stop is on Friday, when I’ll be sharing my review about this utterly intruiging new release. Following two girls working at Bletchly Park during the Second World War, life is already complicated enough before the death of a friend. Worse, the death is suspicious. Pearl and Ellen are utterly devoted to solving the mystery, but they may well be in over their heads…

Come back Friday for my full thoughts!

What are you currently reading?
As always I have multiple books on the go! Currently, I’m reading three.
The first is The City of Brass. I’m already head over heels in love with this book and the characters I’m meeting, however I am finding it pretty heavy going, so I’m listening to it in short bursts, normally one or two chapters at a time. The chapters are quite long, so even just listening to one chapter is a significant period of time as chapters go.
To balance it out, I’m also listening to the Rivers of London book I was next due to read, Lies Sleeping. This is the seventh book in the series, not including novellas or graphic novels, which I’m also planning on working my way through. I’ve really missed these characters and the magic system that’s used, and I’ve got suspicions about where this one is going…
The lovely Amy and I are working our way through I Know You Did It in chunks, and the latest chapters we’ve finished had me pulling faces that can only be described as emojis. I’m waiting for her to catch up so we can pull emoji faces together!
Finally, I’m rereading A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. I decided to reread the first two books as I had only read the first two chapters of the third book when I realised just how much I had forgotten from the first two. I was looking forward to book three so much that I wanted to go into it fresh, so I’m taking the time for a recap! I’ll be doing a “second look review” after I’ve finished, but here’s my original review here.

What are you planning on reading next?
Next Wednesday, I’m taking part in a blog tour for the short story anthology, Game On. I’m really interested in this book, as it both is and isn’t something I’d usually take an interest in, so I’m curious to see what I make of it. So that’s on the cards (gaming pun implied).
I’m also starting the massive buddy read of The Priory of the Orange Tree with another bookish friend. We’re planning on making a start tomorrow, and digging in to the first 20 chapters. I feel like it’s the right kind of time to do it as I’m feeling ahead enough with my book goals that I can slow down a little bit if I need to and still stay on track, meaning it’s a good time to read a long book.
Finally, for the very same reason as I’m reading Priory, I think I’m also going to read A Shadow in the Ember. I’m running out of time to avoid those spoilers as I’ve said a couple of times, and while I’m ahead of the game, especially know there’s a couple of longer books coming out for release in the next few months, I’m going to read this book!

So there we are. Quite a long post this Wednesday, with quite a lot to say! I’m loving being in such a bookish zone so far this year, and I’m really hoping it can continue through all the undoubtable ups and downs that are coming up for us. Books really are a little slice of magic to get lost in, and long may that continue.
